PTSD: Post Traumatic Stress Disorders

A new study suggests that PTSD may be more widespread than previously thought. While PTSD is most commonly associated with combat veterans and victims of violent crime, it can affect anyone who has experienced an upsetting or traumatic event. Such experiences might include a car accident, loss of a loved one under difficult circumstances, a terrifying or extremely stressful event, or threat to a person’s life or well-being.

Symptoms can include anxiety, nightmares, flashbacks, and numbness in day to day living. EMDR and visual imagery techniques have been found to be very helpful in dealing with this difficult and painful condition.

Please refer to Belleruth Naparstek at www.healthjourneys.com for information concerning guided imagery for healing trauma from PTSD. I use both EMDR and guided imagery in helping clients restore a sense of normalcy and well being.
